Updated on 6/12/2015 at 11:21 PM

Delano--After a sluggish start on Friday evening the Athletics defeated the Cokato Kings 8-3.

The Athletics got on the board first in the third inning on an RBI double by Trevor Jaunich. The lead would be short lived for the the Athletics as the Kings bounced back with a pair of runs in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead.

The Kings would take a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Billy Aho. In the bottom of the fifth inning the Athletics would string together a two-out rally on a pair of walks and a single to load the bases for Joey Althoff who came to the plate and hit a 2-2 pitch over the centerfield fence for a grand slam homerun and giving the Athletics a 5-3 lead after five innings.

The Athletics would score three more runs in the sixth, including an RBI single by Josh Hiltner.

Matt Arens in a quality start picked up the win on the hill for the Athletics.  Arens scattered five hits, giving up three runs in 7 innings of work.  Cody Mathisen in relief, pitched two scoreless innings.

The Athletics  travel to Dassel on Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. to take on the Dassel-Cokato Saints.

Notes:
Cokato was sporting new uniforms and it appears that they have changed their team name to the "Kernels". Moving forward we will be referring to them as the "Kernels" until told otherwise.
