Athletics lose to Loretto, despite scoring 5 first inning runs

Rivalry week continued for the Athletics as they traveled to play the Loretto Larks on Wednesday night.  The Athletics jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning, keyed by a 2-RBI double by Toby Hanson.

The Larks would nearly tie the game in the bottom half of the inning with four runs. Starting pitcher Jake Gleason nearly retired the first two Loretto batters in order, but after a catchable fly ball to the outfield was not caught with miscommunication by the fielders the door was opened up for the Larks in a big way. The Athletics pitching staff also issued a season high 13 walks.

Loretto would take a 6-5 lead in the second inning with a 2-runs and the Athletics bats went dormant. Jake Gleason finished the game scattering six hits on six runs in 2-innings of work.

The Athletics now have an 11-5 league record and a 15-7 overall record on the season.
