Rookie Iten pitches Athletics past Orphans
HOWARD LAKE--Just a few days removed from graduating high school and completing his senior season of baseball rookie pitcher Zach Iten got his first town team win of his career versus the Howard Lake Orphans.
Iten scattered four hits, giving up one run in 5 innings as the Delano Athletics defeated the Orphans 3-2 on Wednesday night. Iten struck out five and walked five. .
In relief, the Athletics used three pitchers. Jake Gleason pitched two innings, giving up one unearned run. Tyler Hannan pitched a scoreless eighth and Trevor Jaunich struck out the side in the ninth inning to pick up his second save of the season
Shane Khan took the loss for the Orphans giving up three runs in 5 innings. Khan struckout six and walked six batters, while scattering four hits.
Offensively the Athletics were led by Joey and Jeff Althoff. Jeff drove in Joey in the fifth inning on a triple to score Joey. Jeff finished the game 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, Joey finished the game 3-for-4 with one RBI and a double.
Next Up: The Athletics host the Cokato Kings on Friday, June 12.
