For most of the afternoon the Athletics were silenced by Maple Plain Diamond Devils starting pitcher Lee Gregg, but were able to survive late.

The Diamond Devils got on the board quickly to take 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI single by Adam Gregg, off Athletics starting pitcher Matt Arens.  The Diamond Devils would score again in the third inning and held a 2-0 until the seventh inning.

The Athletics would finally get on the board in the seventh inning, keyed by Diamond Devil errors and a 2-RBI single by Joey Althoff to take a 3-2 lead. The Diamond Devils quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning on a 2-RBI triple by Billy Soule and regain the lead, 4-3.

The Athletics were able to tie the game back up in the top of the eighth , 4-4, with a costly error by Maple Plain and aggressive baserunning by Jeff Althoff.

With the game tied 4-4 heading to the ninth inning, Adam Schleper led off the inning for the Athletics with a walk. Kevin Jaunich layed down a sacrifice bunt to advance Schleper into scoring position to second base.  Tyler Wolfe reached base on an error by Maple Plain, Schleper advanced to third wiht 1-out, Joey Althoff stepped up to the plate and hit hard line drive up the middle off the pitcher.Adam Gregg for a single, scoring Schleper and the Athletics regained the lead, 5-4.  With 2-outs, Jeff Althoff stepped up to the plate and sealed the game for the Athletics with a 3-run homerun over the left field fence and the Athletics would go on to win the game 8-4.

Starting pitcher Matt Arens threw six innings, gave up five hits and two earned runs and got the no decision.  Cody Mathisen was the pitcher of record, gave up two earned runs, one hit and three strikeouts. Adam Gregg took the loss for the Diamond Devils in relief, he gave up six runs, one earned run on four hits.

The Athletics improved their overall record to 4 wins and 0 losses.  Next up for the Athletics is a non-league game at Young America on Wednesday.
